Project Sukanya

Project Sukanya is a Girl Child Empowerment scheme by Rotary Club of Cochin Global for the Girl children from financially backward strata of the society to empower her by helping to create a fund for her education or enhance her career.
This project has been Initiated by the 18th and 1st lady President of the Club, Rtn. Asha Sunil.
The amount collected as sponsorships or donations would be deposited in the beneficiary account under the Sukanya Samridhi Yojana scheme by the Government of India. A committee of committed lady Rotarians with Rtn. Nitha Thampi as the Chairman of the project and Rtn. Ann George as the co-Chairman manage the accounts and safekeeping of the passbooks for the coming 15 years.
The Sponsorship for underprivileged girl children to help them for higher education with contributions start from Rs. 6000/ for 15 years, Rs. 14,000/- for 5 years, Rs. 25,000/- for 2 years or Rs.50,000/- one time.

UNVEILING OF THE PROJECT


 

 

• The project was unveiled by Her Highness, Princess Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore Royal Family on 11th of October 2021, the International Girl Child Day.
• The first cheque for 4-year-old Diya was handed over by the Princess.
• Her highness herself contributed Rs. 16000/ for the Project.

INAUGURATION OF THE PROJECT RTN. RAJASEKHAR SRINIVASAN
District Governor RTN. RAJASEKHAR SRINIVASAN inaugurated the Project Sukanya on the 17th of October 2021. District Director Rtn Varghese K Joy, Assistant Governors Rtn. Vice Admiral Suthan, Rtn. Narayanan Krishna Menon, Rtn. Narendrakumar, Rtn. Suresh K Nair, Rtn. Subramanian Sitaraman, Rtn. Lakshmi Menon, Rtn. Vinu Jospeh, GGR Tony Manuel graced the occasion. 11 beneficiaries were presented with post office passbooks by starting the account for sponsorship.

HANDING OVER OF CHEQUE TO THE HEAD POST OFFICE
Based on Rotary International President Rtn. Shekhar Mehta’s goal for 2021-22, Empowering Girl Child, Rotary Club of Cochin Global’s President Rtn. Asha Sunil and Project Chair, Rtn. Nitha Thampi in the presence of Rotary Governor of District 3201, Rajasekhar Sreenivas handed over a cheque of Rs 13,66,250/- to the Post Master General Mrs Mariama Thomas on the 3rd of February 2022.
